The Oscar nominee was one of 33 parents charged in the scandal, along with Fuller House star Lori Laughlin. She was arrested and taken into custody on March 12, where she was charged by federal prosecutors with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

It is alleged that the 56-year-old star paid US $15,000 to consultant William Singer to boost her 18-year-old daughter Sofia’s SAT score. Singer admitted to hiring a separate person to monitor the exam and correct answers; which resulted in Sofia scoring a 1420 on the SATs, 400 points higher than she had scored on the practise test.

It is also alleged that Felicity made a $15,000 “donation” to Key Worldwide Foundation, Singer’s charity, in February 2018.

“I am pleading guilty to the charge brought against me by the United States Attorney’s Office,” Huffman said in a statement on Monday. “I am in full acceptance of my guilt, and with deep regret and shame over what I have done, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions. I am ashamed of the pain I have caused my daughter, my family, my friends, my colleagues and the educational community.”

“I want to apologise to them and, especially, I want to apologise to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices to support their children and do so honestly.

The actress as keen to emphasise that her plan to help her Sofia cheat on her SATS was done without her daughter’s knowledge.

“My daughter knew absolutely nothing about my actions, and in my misguided and profoundly wrong way, I have betrayed her. This transgression toward her and the public I will carry for the rest of my life. My desire to help my daughter is no excuse to break the law or engage in dishonesty.”
