Season Two of 13 Reasons Why has well and truly hit Netflix, and while watching it (and having varied opinions) – we couldn’t help but noticed a familiar face!

That’s right newcomer Ben Lawson who plays Coach Rick, is, in fact, Australian actor Ben Lawson.

While WHO previously reported that Lawson had secured a gig on the popular Netflix series, we have only just discovered his role in the show.

Lawson is best known in Australia for his role as Frazer Yeats in Neighbours and Colin Ryan of Love Child.

Most recently he had a stint in Modern Family.

Are you surprised about his newest role?

Check out all the new additions to Season Two of 13 Reasons Why below.

Who recently caught up with Lawson and here’s what he had to say…

Did you film 13 Reasons at the same time you worked on Designated Survivor?
I was flying between Toronto and San Francisco for about six months. My head spun a little bit, but it’s a nice problem to have. The tone  of the two shows is very different, the characters are very different, and my accent was different.

What can you say about your role in 13?
I play into Hannah’s narrative by way of the kids in the baseball team. I am more or less a kind of protective figure, or akin to a father figure. As we know through the first season, some of those kids are behaving in very questionable ways, so that creates conflict for my character. He needs to look after these guys.

How is working with Katherine Langford?

She’s such a lovely girl. And that always makes it feel a little more friendly when there’s another Aussie accent in the cast.
