Hailey Bieber is setting the record straight on her relationship with husband Justin Bieber, joining Alex Cooper on the popular podcast Call Her Daddy this week.
The episode, which was released on Wednesday, saw Hailey open up about her husband’s previous relationship with singer Selena Gomez, revealing all the details on the murky relationship timeline.
“Your husband was in a very public relationship” explained Alex, “people were obsessed with them [Justin and Selena] being together.”
“Were you ever with Justin romantically, at the same time as her?”
Hailey quickly denied the accusation, replying “No, not one time.”
“When him and I first ever started hooking up or anything of that sort he was not ever in a relationship – ever at any point” Hailey explained.
“It’s not my character to mess with someone’s relationship – I would just never do that. I was raised better than that. I’m not interested in doing that and I never was.”
While Hailey made it clear that she and Justin were never together when he was with Selena, she did admit details of the timeline may sound complicated to others.
Sharing that she and Justin were involved with each other on and off since she was 18, Hailey admitted that Justin and his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez were together shortly before he was engaged to Hailey.
“I understand how it looks from the outside,” admitted Hailey, before explaining that the situation offered Justin and Selena closure.
“I know for a fact it was the right thing for them to close that door, they were not in a relationship at that time but of course, there is a very long history there and its not my relationship, it has nothing to do with me and I respect that a lot.”
“It closed a chapter and I think it was the best thing that could have happened for him to move on.”
Admitting that she didn’t want to talk on either Justin or Selena’s behalf, Hailey also shared that the closure Justin received contributed to their healthy relationship today.
“It was the most healthy, mature, decision that he could have made,” she said.
Hailey also revealed that she “totally” gets why so many people were angry over her and Justin Bieber’s engagement in 2018.
The rhode skin founder explained that their young age was another contributing factor as to why so many people were upset.
“We’re both really young” explained Hailey, clarifying that they were only 21 and 24 at the time.
“I personally never thought I was going to get married that young.”
And although she “totally gets” why people were concerned with the “rapid” and “fast” engagement she insists it “felt correct for the two of us at the time.”
“And clearly we were right because here we are four years later!”
