To say that David has had a tough time in the House Rules competition would be an understatement. Despite putting his best foot forward in every renovation, the FIFO worker from Perth has struggled to hit the mark with his designs and execution, causing him and wife Chiara to end up on the bottom of the House Rules leaderboard. The pressure proved to be too much for David in tonight’s episode and he decided to leave altogether.
Things didn’t start out well for David when an argument broke out between him and Leigh after David became frustrated at the fact that Kristie was trying to take floor space from his bathroom for her kitchen. “Not going to happen, sorry mate,” said David. “No way. Not happening. I am not having a two-metre bathroom. No, I’ve compromised too f**king much.”

David’s expletive caused Leigh to unleash on him. “Hey calm down. Don’t speak to my wife like that,” said Leigh. “If you’re going to start speaking like that mate I’ll fire up. Don’t speak to her like that.”

Chiara told her husband to step away and take five minutes to calm down, while Leigh told the camera that if he wasn’t on TV, things would have ended differently between him and David. “If someone spoke to my wife like that down at the pub or down the street…” he said. “Leigh would have knocked him out,” Kristie continued. “We wouldn’t be sitting here, he wouldn’t be standing up put it that way,” Leigh said.

While the argument was eventually dispelled thanks to David issuing Leigh and Kristie an apology, it wasn’t the end of David’s woes. When Chiara and David attempted to buy furniture for their walk-in wardrobe, David became frustrated by Chiara continually knocking down his ideas. Eventually he couldn’t take it anymore and he walked out of the store and declared that he was going home. “Everything I f**king do is not good enough for that woman, I don’t even know why I’m f**king here trying for her,” he said. “I’m f**king done. I’m going home. I’m over it. I’m quitting the competition. I just want to go home. I’m out.”

With David’s walkout, Chiara realised that this could spell the end of their time in House Rules. “David’s taken off, he reckons he’s not coming back. If that’s the case it’s a complete disaster and that’s us done in the competition.”
