House Rules contestant Jessica Dover grew up dreaming of her wedding day. Fast-forward a few years and the primary-school teacher from Adelaide isn’t far off making that dream a reality with her boyfriend of two years, former Crows midfielder Jared Petrenko, 28. “I know we joke about it throughout the competition but I’m happy whenever it happens!” Jess tells WHO. “I’m sure I’ll know when Jared is about to propose though because he doesn’t have a romantic bone in his body. The second anything out of the norm happens I’ll know,” she laughs.
With the nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on May 19, royal wedding fever runs high and similarities between her and the American actress have been frequently pointed out to the 24-year-old. “I am actually blown away by how many people say I look like Meghan Markle,” she says. “I am so flattered every time. I try not to react but inside I’m stoked. [Laughs] I think the strangest person to say it was one of the students at school.”
While Jess is looking forward to watching the royal wedding unfold, she pictures a far more low-key affair for her own day. “I hope our wedding isn’t too big,” she says. “But knowing how many people Jared knows, I’m not holding my breath!” As for the specifics of the day, Jess is all about the atmosphere. “I love flowers and fairy lights so would [have] them draped throughout the reception area,” she says. “I want the mood to feel magical.”
When it comes to the dress, Jess isn’t completely sure of her preferred style. “I have an idea of the dress I would like but I’m sure once I start trying them on my opinion will change dramatically,” she says. “But at this stage I would love a somewhat fuller dress with thick straps and low V at the front and back with mesh or detailing incorporated within it.” As for her hair, she would opt to have it tied up with a veil. “As much as I love having my hair down, I think it would be an up-do day,” she says.
While Jess isn’t sure when to expect an engagement ring, her boyfriend Jared is “at the stage where I want to settle down and have kids,” he tells WHO. “Jess is not far off that as well so we definitely do want to move to that stage soon.” For ring choice, she’s already given him a helping hand. “I think I may have sent Jared a few sneaky photos in the past to give him a hint,” she says. “But I honestly don’t think he would trust himself to pick it. He might have to get some help from a girlfriend of mine! But I do like the idea of a surprise.”
