Among the galaxy of superstars that descended
on Hollywood’s Sunset Tower Hotel on Feb. 9
to celebrate actress Jennifer Aniston’s 50th birthday, it was the arrival of one guest in particular that got the whole world talking.

The birthday girl’s ex-husband Brad Pitt, wearing a newsboy cap over his slicked-back hair, was ushered inside by his longtime security team.

Arriving about 45 minutes after Aniston, the now-single father of six “seemed to be
in a good mood and happy to be there”, said a source.

Once inside, the former golden couple – who
finalised their divorce in 2005 after five years of marriage – “hugged and chatted for a bit”, a source told WHO.

“Jen was busy making sure all of her other guests had an amazing time.” According
to Us Weekly, Pitt also presented his ex with
a birthday card.

As for why Pitt, 55, received an invitation, “basically, every single person who loves Jen attended”, the source tells WHO.

“This included Brad. The party was a celebration of Jen’s life and Brad, for a long time, was a very important part of Jen’s life. She debated back and forth with friends if she should invite him,” the insider continues, adding that the actress “was very happy that he showed up”.

It would seem the dating pool in Hollywood is quite shallow. Moving around the party, Pitt may have bumped into another of his famous exes, Gwyneth Paltrow, or Aniston’s ex John Mayer and his ex Katy Perry, who arrived on a motorbike with her boyfriend Orlando Bloom.

“Guests mingled out by the pool and back bar drinking cocktails and toasting Jen. They had a DJ, white flowers and lots of candles glowing,”
a source told WHO. “Everyone was coming up
to Jen and hugging her and screaming ‘Happy Birthday!’. She had family there and seemed very happy to be with so many good friends.”

Other famous faces who attended included George and Amal Clooney, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey Jr, Ellen DeGeneres, Barbra Streisand, Keith Richards, Kate Hudson,
Laura Dern and Demi Moore, plus Aniston’s
Friends co-stars and good pals Lisa Kudrow
and Courteney Cox, whose own ex-husband David Arquette also attended.
