Johnny Ruffo Passes Away After Cancer Battle

Johnny Ruffo has passed away after a long battle with cancer, he was 35.

The family of the Aussie singer who was a finalist on the third season of The X Factor Australia in 2011 took to Instagram to announce his passing. 

“It is with a heavy heart that today we had to farewell our beloved Johnny,” they wrote.

“Surrounded by his partner Tahnee and family, Johnny went peacefully with the support of some incredible Nurses & Doctors.

“He was a very talented, charming and sometimes cheeky boy. Johnny was very determined and had a strong will. He battled all the way to the end and fought as hard as he could. Such a beautiful soul with so much more to give.

“We all love you Johnny and will remember you for all the joy you brought to our lives.

“Rest easy ❤️”

Following a successful music career, Johnny won the 2012 season of Dancing With the Stars, a year later he began a three-year stint playing Chris Harrington on Home and Away.

In 2017 Johnny revealed he had been diagnosed with brain cancer and had undergone surgery to remove a tumour. Two years later he revealed he was in remission. 

In November 2020 Johnny shared the devastating news that his brain cancer returned in a heart-breaking update on Instagram. 

“After an unexpected week of seizures and excruciating headaches it is with a heavy heart that I have to let you know I now have another huge battle ahead of me as my brain cancer has returned, though I will dig deep and beat this s*** disease again,” he wrote at the time.

Kepping fans up to date with his health, he confirmed in August 2022 that his cancer was terminal.

Thousands of friends, co-stars and fans flooded Johnny’s Instagram page with tributes following the news of his death. 

“My heart is broken. We loved you so much. Thinking of your family and all who loved you,” Sally Obermeder wrote. 

“Oh darling boy. ❤️ xx Sending love to all who knew and loved you. And there are so many,” Kylie Gillies added.

“Shattered,” commented Fitzy. “An absolute beacon of positivity. Johnny walked into any room and put a smile on everybody’s face. Gonna miss ya brother, watch over us.”
