Justice Crew is one of two Australian acts – the other: illusionist Cosentino – to compete in America’s Got Talent: The Champions (starts Thur., Jan. 10 at 7.30pm; FOX8). The dance group’s Lukas Bellesini, 28, fills us in.
Did you have any reservations about taking on the best Talent contestants from around the world?
We were all in. Things have been a little slow the last few years, so as soon as we got the offer we thought it would be the perfect thing to bring us back up. The only reservation we had was we didn’t want to disappoint [judge] Simon Cowell.
And how was it performing for him?
He had a cheeky smirk on his face and said, “I’ve heard of you guys.” He’s a really nice bloke, but he’s a businessman and knows how to make an artist really pop, so we really had to dazzle him.
What was it like being back on stage in the Talent environment?
They feel like two different shows. With America’s Got Talent, there’s so much more production-wise and so much more money put into it. We’d never seen anything like it before. For us, it was a lot of pressure to get out there and do our best.
Did the fact that you won your original Australian season calm the nerves?
It was like, “OK, we’ve won already so we need to keep that standard and put on a world-class show.”
Now releasing music independently, Justice Crew have a new single, “So Long”, out Fri., Jan. 11.
