Gangnam police say investigations are ongoing after the 28-year-old music star was discovered dead at 6pm local time on Sunday inside her home in the affluent Cheongdam-dong area of South Korea.
Hara, formerly of girl band Kara had just days ago staged a comeback in Japan, touring the country from November 14 to 19, to promote her new solo single.
Earlier this year the music star issued an apology for causing a “commotion” after an apparent suicide attempt in May.
“I am sorry for causing concerns and a commotion,’ Hara told Sankei Sports days after her suicide attempt, ‘In terms of health, I am recovering … I had been in agony over a number of overlapping issues.”
Hara, who had spoken out against cyber bullying in the past, pleaded with the public for more positive comments on social media.
She added: “But from now on, I will steel my heart and try to show up healthy.”
Last September, the popular singer made headlines after engaging in a public row with ex-boyfriend Choi Jong-Bum, who she accused of blackmailing her with sex tapes the pair had made.
Reports also state that the singer and actress had been questioned by police after allegedly assaulting Choi.
Last month, Sulli, 25, another former girl band member and close friend of Hara’s, was found dead at her apartment after battling “severe depression,” reportedly stemming from the public backlash she received after accidentally revealing a nipple on Instagram.
