There’s a very important reason why Karlie Kloss gave up her Victoria’s Secret angel wings.
The 26-year-old supermodel explained to British Vogue why she could no longer work for the underwear giant, stating that studying feminist theory at New York University in 2015 completely changed her mind set about the fashion industry, and she now wants to be a “better feminist”

“The reason I decided to stop working with Victoria’s Secret was I didn’t feel it was an image that was truly reflective of who I am and the kind of message I want to send to young women around the world about what it means to be beautiful,” the Project Runway host explained.
“I think that was a pivotal moment in me stepping into my power as a feminist, being able to make my own choices and my own narrative, whether through the companies I choose to work with, or through the image I put out to the world.”
At the time of her departure from Victoria’s Secret, it was widely reported that Karlie’s husband Josh Kushner – who is Ivanka Trump’s brother-in-law – had placed pressure on her due to his conservative beliefs. Meanwhile the New York Post reported a representative for the fashion giant as saying Kloss had not renewed her contract so as to have more “time to fulfil her myriad commitments”.
However, Kloss – who is Taylor Swift‘s former BFF – hasn’t completely distanced herself from the company, returning to walk for VS during their Shanghai in 2017.
