What will Kate Middleton wear to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding?

And who will design the outfit?

While the world wonders what bride Meghan Markle’s wedding dress will look like, speculation over what the Duchess of Cambridge will wear to the event is just as fierce. Kate has been to her fair share of royal weddings over the years and has honed her style for such occasions. A quick look back through her sartorial choices shows that Kate favours printed dresses paired with blazers as well as long coats, plain pumps and festive hats.

The release of Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding invitation revealed that a dress code would be enforced on the day, with men expected to wear Uniform, Morning Coat or Lounge Suit while women should wear Day Dress with Hat. While Kate has worn a hat (or a fascinator at the very least) to every royal wedding she has attended, this official dress code means we can expect to see the Duchess sporting headwear. If her outfit from sister Pippa’s wedding in May 2017 is anything to go by, she could colour match her dress and hat. When it comes to designers, it’s no secret that Kate is a fan of Jenny Packham and Alexander McQueen (Kate wore an Alexander McQueen gown to her own wedding as well as Pippa’s) and this dress will most likely be in the veins of those designers for the occasion – no recycled outfits here.

Here’s a taste of Kate’s previous royal wedding outfits.

The wedding of William Van Cutsem and Rosie Ruck Keene, May 2013

Weeks after wearing a polka dot dress to a Warner Brothers movie studio tour, Kate recycled the Topshop skater dress for the wedding of William van Cutsem and Rosie Ruck Keene in Oxford. The Duchess, who was pregnant with Prince George, paired the dress with a black Ralph Lauren jacket, black pumps and clutch and finished the look with a Vivien Sheriff fascinator.

The wedding of Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall, July 2011

To witness the wedding of Prince William’s cousin Zara Phillips and her longtime love, rugby player Mike Tindall, Kate opted for a brocade DAY Birger et Mikkelsen coatdress (which she also wore to the 2006 wedding of Camilla Parker Bowles’ daughter Laura and her beau Harry Lopes). Kate completed her look with a hat by Gina Foster Millinery for the wedding in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The wedding of Sam Waley-Cohen and Annabel Ballin, June 2011

A mere two months after she tied the knot at Westminster Abbey, Kate wore a geometric patterned dress from high-street store Zara to witness the wedding of close friends Sam Waley-Cohen and Annabel Ballin in Lambourn, England. Kate, who attended the wedding with her younger sister Pippa, finished the look with a Lock & Company hat.

For the wedding of her sister Pippa, Kate ditched her usual coat/blazer combination and donned a long-sleeved blush pink dress by Alexander McQueen, which she paired with a hat of the same colour.

Considering that Kate will be attending her brother-in-law’s wedding, we think that she’ll wear something similar to this outfit from Pippa’s wedding. But, as always, Kate’s choice will be respectful and demure, making sure all of the focus is on the bride and groom.
