Retail giant Kmart has recalled their home&CO two slice stainless steel toaster due to safety fears after customers claimed the product ‘blew up in their faces.’
According to the official Kmart Facebook account, the retailer statement reads: “We are committed to the quality and safety of our product ranges and would like to make you aware of a product safety recall we currently have on our home&CO 2 Slice Stainless Steel Toaster (Model No. TL-136) purchased between September 2016 – November 2017.”
The social media post also advises that customers who purchased the product should “please stop using it and return it to any Kmart store for a full refund.”
Meanwhile, the warning label Kmart issued stated: “Some of the toasters have a faulty switch, causing the heating element to remain “live” when the lever is up and the toaster appears turned off. The item poses a potential electrocution hazard. Contact with the heating element may result in a severe electric shock of 240V.”
Following the recall, dozens have declared that they have had their toaster purchased between the above dates had in fact blown up.
“Bugger, chucked mine out last week, it literally blew up in my face,” a customer wrote online.
“I chucked mine out a couple weeks after I bought it – tripped the safety switch twice,” one more wrote.
