Well, well, well – it looks like Meghan Markle has always had a thing for British men.
A new report has emerged revealing the Duchess of Sussex once swapped secret messages with British reality star Matt Cardle.
Before falling in love with Prince Harry, the former Suits actress is said to have struck up a close, online relationship with Matt, who won the UK’s X Factor, according to The Sun.
The publication states that Meghan – who gave birth to her first child, son Archie, earlier this month – and Matt began exchanging messages in 2015, just before Matt was set to take on his award-winning role in the West End musical Memphis.
“Matt followed Meghan initially in early 2015 because he thought she was a beautiful star from Suits,” the source spills.
“But he was stunned when she followed him immediately back and started messaging him. She said she was a big fan of his work.”
According to The Sun, Meghan, 37, was in London the time following her split from first husband Trevor Engelson and was “on the lookout” for a new British man
“Matt couldn’t believe a Hollywood star like Meghan would even know who he was so he was very flattered and they chatted a little bit online before she suggested meeting up,” the source continues.
“But then he met his girlfriend and knew it wasn’t appropriate to keep talking to Meghan so he ended up ghosting her.
“It felt like there could have been a connection but the timing was wrong. He didn’t reply to her last message.”
Matt is still in a relationship with his girlfriend, Amber Hernaman, 28, with the Brit crediting her for helping him deal with his drug and alcohol addiction following his X-Factor win in 2010.
While spokesperson’s for both Meghan and Matt have declined to comment on the report, during the time of their alleged online relationship journalist Katie Hind spent a night out with Meghan and said the actress was very keen to meet a British man.
“She asked me about British men, and confided that she had recently got divorced from her husband, and now she was single and very much ready to mingle,” said Hind.
“I quizzed her about American men, but she didn’t seem so keen on them.”
