Michael Turnbull left Bachelor In Paradise single after failing to find love. Here he reveals to WHO whether he is still single, what his relationship with Lisa Hyde is like now, and why things didn’t progress with Tara Pavlovic and Leah Costa.
WHO: So you left Paradise tonight. Was that a tough decision to make?
MICHAEL: It was a fairly easy decision to leave. I was having so much fun on there but it got to the point where I was like if I stay here I’m staying here just for the sake of it. So it was a decision I put a lot of thought into but it was definitely the right time to go.
WHO: Do you regret not making more of an effort to pursue Lisa earlier on in Paradise?
MICHAEL: Yeah I think if I had of done that things would have been very different. Lisa had said at the start she was interested in getting to know me, but it’s just the way that it panned out that I was talking to Tara and we both sort of went our separate ways so I guess timing is everything in Paradise.
WHO: You and Tara did seem to have a good connection at the start. What happened there, why did that stop?
MICHAEL: Obviously I got back from the date with Keira and Tara had a couple of drinks and we had a couple of conversations and I just saw a couple of things in Tara and I’m like you know what, if this is where this is headed I think it’s better way stay friends, you know what I mean?
WHO: That seemed to work out well for her and Sam though…
MICHAEL: Yeah absolutely. I’m very happy for her and Sam. They have a very good connection, it’s quite strong. I think that situation worked out quite well and me and Tara are still the best of friends as are Sam and I. So it couldn’t have been a better scenario.
WHO: So Lisa and Luke have since split. Are you still in contact with Lisa?
MICHAEL: Yeah I speak to Lisa quite often actually. Lisa’s a very good friend of mine and I think the world of her, we’re very much in contact.
WHO: Is there anything romantic between there, or could you see anything romantic between the two of you in the future?
MICHAEL: I think Lisa and I just need time, now that Paradise is over. So I think we just have to wait and see what happens.
WHO: Are you still talking to Luke?
MICHAEL: No I don’t talk to Luke. Not that I have anything against him, he’s a good guy but there’s just no need to talk to him. It’s not like we’re living in the same city, but we can’t be friends with everyone I guess.
WHO: Do you think your decision at the rose ceremony to give your rose to Lisa impacted your friendship with Luke?
MICHAEL: I think it definitely did, it probably would have pissed him off. But at the end of the day you do what’s right for yourself and I think I did it in a very respectful way. It was in front of everyone, I didn’t go behind anyones back, Id id it out in the open. So it did put a handbrake on our friendship, but I haven’t got any hard feelings.
WHO: So you’ve done The Bachelorette and Bachelor In Paradise, would you consider being The Bachelor?
MICHAEL: I think for right now I’ll get through this show, let the dust settle. But I’m always up for an opportunity, I never rule anything out. So I’ll see what happens after the show.
WHO: Are you looking for love now? Or have you found somebody since the show?
MICHAEL: No, I’m looking, I’m always looking for love, and I’ll never quit. It’s one of those things, the more you look the harder it is to find so I guess I’m just going to see what happens. I’m not actively going out there trying to find out, but if someone comes along I’m definitely ready to go.
WHO: Would you go on any of the apps like Tinder or Bumble?
MICHAEL: I’ve definitely tried Tinder out, don’t get me wrong, but you know what I think after this show it’s best not to. And I don’t know what kind of quality of girls are on Tinder, I rather meet someone in real life… but maybe I should give it a go and get back onto it! Let’s just let the dust settle and I’ll see where I’m at.
WHO: What about you and Leah, are you still in contact with her?
MICHAEL: Yeah I speak to Leah, Leah’s great. I think Leah is a bit young for me. She kissed Grant and Davey and to be honest that sort of put me off a little but. I don’t want to be with somebody who has kissed everybody. When I’m 25 or 26 I’ll go kissing all the girls I don’t care but I’m at a point now where I want to find someone and really invest my time into that rather than going around kissing everyone in the pool.
WHO: What’s life like now after the Paradise?
MICHAEL: I’m back in Brisbane, I’ve got my property business here that I’m focusing on full-time. So it’s just back to normal life and trying to get fit and healthy after Paradise:
WHO: Were you able to work out whilst you were there?
MICHAEL: You could work out, there wasn’t a gym but you had weights and stuff like that. But I wasn’t in fine form when I left, I had to hit the gym and get back into shape that’s for sure.
WHO: It seems like you guys are always drinking in Paradise, but I never see you all eating. Where’s the food?
MICHAEL: Oh we ate a lot of food. So the restaurant was always open. We were having chicken burgers, we were very well looked after. We were always eating but they never show that because we must be really ugly eaters [laughs].
