Iconic Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger will be undergoing major heart surgery later this week, according to reports.
The news follows the postponement of the band’s North American tour, with a spokesperson citing “medical reasons” for the sudden cancellation.
The US website Drudge Report, claims Jagger, 75, will undergo surgery this week in New York to replace a heart valve. New York Post’s Page Six website, citing unidentified sources, said the surgery would involve placing a stent in the singer’s heart.
At the time of writing, representatives for the ageing rocker have yet to comment.
On March 31 the band announced it was postponing all dates on its tour of the United States and Canada to give Jagger time to receive medical treatment. While they did not comment on what specific treatment the frontman needed, the statement said he is expected to make a full recovery.
The British star – who is a father of eight -also sent a tweet out to his fans to apologise for the cancellation.
Band member, Ronnie Wood also tweeted following the postponement.
“We’ll miss you over the next few weeks, but we’re looking forward to seeing you all again very soon. Here’s to Mick ~ thanks for your supportive messages it means so much to us.”
Keith Richards added, “A big disappointment for everyone but things need to be taken care of and we will see you soon. Mick, we are always there for you!”
The band’s “No Filter” tour was expected to start later this month in Miami.
We’re wishing Mick a speedy recovery.
