Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth went against all odds and became THAT celebrity couple that broke up, only to get back together and (seem to) have one of the most genuine, beautiful relationships in Hollywood.
Despite everything that the pair had been through, their teen romance that kicked off when they met on the set of Nicholas Sparks’ novel adaptation of The Last Song seemed to cement their place in the hall of fame of celebrity couples that actually last when they had their low-key wedding in December 2018.
But Miley wagged her tongue at the 2019 Met Gala in a way that only could only bring on some PTSD for Liam, giving him flashbacks to her Bangerz era where it all went wrong (for the first time, that is)… and ever since then, their relationship has slowly disintegrated. So much so that the couple confirmed in an official statement that their marriage is over, after 9 months.

2008–2009
This was it. The real-life meet-cute between Miley Cyrus (17 at the time) and Liam Hemsworth (19 at the time), when they were cast in The Last Song as romantic lovers. At the time, Miley was best known for her Disney role as Hannah Montana. As for Liam, he was relatively unknown, but his fellow Australian’s were pretty damn proud of this gig he had landed.
The movie brought the actors together romantically in real life, with People reporting that they were spotted”full-on making out,” when they were saying goodbye to each other at the Nashville airport after shooting had wrapped up for the film.
Ugh – hindsight can be so cruel.
2010
Hemsworth and Cyrus made their first red carpet debut as a couple for the premiere of The Last Song. They also posed for a very loved-up photoshoot in Teen Vogue.
“It’s refreshing to work with an actor who isn’t also a singer and dancer and musician and artist and this and that. I’m sick of quadruple threats,” Cyrus told the magazine of Liam.
August
In August that year, the pair allegedly broke up for about one month. However, they got back together in September.
2011
The final episode of Hannah Montana aired in this year, and Liam began filming for The Hunger Games franchise. They were constantly stepping out as a couple during this time.
2012
At this point there were some serious rumours about the pair getting engaged – however – Cyrus dispelled the rumours on Twitter.
2012 continued
Well, well, well, seems like the engagement was coming! The pair confirmed the news to People in June 2012. Miley was 19 and Liam was 22. He proposed in May with a stunning 3.5-carat Neil Lane diamond ring.
“I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” Cyrus told the publication.
2013
This is the year it all started to go downhill… However, it was the year Miley became absolutely POLARISING with her Bangerz album, and absolute ROGUEness.
Miley was soon spotted without her ring, causing speculation that the engagement was called off.
In April, People had reported that the couple postponed their upcoming wedding but were still engaged and living together.
In September, Miley officially unfollowed Liam on Twitter, which was right before confirmation that their engagement had officially been called off.
“I don’t think I realised what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn’t change being engaged. It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years,” Cyrus told Barbara Walters in December. “But now, I just feel like I can actually be happy.”
2014
Now that she’s a single woman, Miley struck up a romance with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son, Patrick Schwarzenegger.
2015
By April of 2015, Patrick and Miley had called it quits. This was when rumours of Miley’s relationship with model Stella Maxwell had begun circling.
“I remember telling her I admire women in a different way. And she asked me what that meant. And I said, ‘I love them. I love them like I love boys,’” Cyrus told Paper in June about a conversation she had about her sexuality with her mum, Tish Cyrus.
“And it was so hard for her to understand. She didn’t want me to be judged, and she didn’t want me to go to hell. But she believes in me more than she believes in any god. I just asked for her to accept me. And she has.”
2016
It happened. Fans allowed HOPE into their hearts as Miley and Liam were spotted together at Falls Festival in Byron Bay, with Liam’s brother Chris Hemsworth’s wife Elsa Pataky.
This is also when Miley was seen wearing her old engagement ring once again. This was it. The relationship was BACK ON!
“Of course it was hard, man. But at the time we were going in different directions, and it’s just what needed to happen,” Liam told GQ. “We were both super young, and it was a good decision at the time—we both needed that.

This was when things started to become pretty serious between the two again, after Miley released her single “Malibu”, which was a romantic dedication to Liam, and them reconciling.
“They’re going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam,” she told Billboard. “So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, ‘This is how I feel’?”

The pair faced some seriously tough times when their home in Malibu was burnt down during the California wildfires. Miley gushed about Liam’s involvement in saving their animals during the horrible time.
“He was so incredible. He got all the animals out in his truck. He put two pigs in crates, which I tell you is so hard,” Cyrus told Howard Stern.
“He got a lot of action for saving the animals,” Miley continued. “We had to make sure he knew I was very, very grateful.”
The pair also donated $500,000 to the relief effort.

The news that shocked the world and sent us all into a mushy MESS. The pair had a low-key wedding in their home in Nashville. It was beautiful. We are so depressed right now.

Officially, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth call off their wedding after 9 months. On August 10, People announced the news. “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” said a rep. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
Oh but did things take a TURN.
During the news of their split, Miley was spotted lounging around naked on a boat in Italy, making out with Brody Jenner’s ex-wife Kaitlynn Carter.
Entertainment Tonight obtained the X-rated images that have since gone viral.
Brody responded by posting a photo of himself in Malibu, California on social media, with the caption, “Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.”
Brandon Thomas Lee, Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s son was quick to make a joke in the comments section saying: “Let’s round this scandal out and post a pic of us making out,” with the kissy-face emoji.

However, a source from RadarOnline has revealed that the Australian actor is “heartbroken” over losing her, and is blind-sighted by her new public fling with Kaitlynn.
