ROBIN HOOD

STARRING: Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx

Here we go again – yet another production of ye olde tale of the dude who robs from the rich to give to the poor. This romp, with its comic book styling, is pitched at a younger market. Problem is: which one? Half the film seems to aim at Kingsman-like cool (mainly the scenes with Foxx) and the other half at Hunger Games–type dystopia (more the scenes with the other Jamie, Dornan). Upbeat one minute, down the next. And Kingsman’s Egerton (as the Hood) fades by comparison with the charisma of Foxx and a snarling Ben Mendelsohn as the boo-hiss Sheriff of Nottingham. 2.5 stars
