It’s never too late to learn something new – even when you’re the Queen of England!
Her Majesty couldn’t resist making a cheeky comment when she was shown the ropes at a self-service checkout to mark the 150th anniversary of UK supermarket giant, Sainsbury’s yesterday.
Watch below to see the Queen make a very cheeky comment during a tour of a supermarket
During her tour of a replica store, the 93-year-old monarch was shown just how far grocery shopping has come – from rationing during wartime, to how busy 21st century families use self-service tills to pay for their weekly shops.
As manager Damien Corcoran explained the check-out system to her (because, let’s face it, the Queen has probably never set foot in a supermarket before) she couldn’t resist asking: “And you can’t trick it? You can’t cheat then?”
To which Mr Corcoran patiently replied: “Well, you always can cheat but with the weighing scales we’ve got that should prevent certain items from being undetected.”
During her time touring the store, the Queen was also shown a new shopping app, which she called “an interesting tool” and reflected on her own experiences of wartime rationing.
“As a Sunday treat we had some sweeties, but we were lucky we had a farm.”
