Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald took some time out from his usual funny-guy radio antics this week when he opened up about the loss of his daughter early on his marriage to wife Belinda.
The former Big Brother star got candid about the heartbreaking experience devastating grief the couple suffered ten years ago.
“We’ve been through quite a bit with our relationship,” Fitzy told news.com.au’s Balls Deep podcast.
“We lost a child, which was pretty full-on. I came from a family that’s like, you get dealt a bad blow and you move on. But she (Belinda) came from a family that was quite emotional and it was pretty full-on.”
Ryan explained that after Belinda had to deliver their daughter, doctor’s recommended that the couple see their baby.
“It was tough … and I haven’t really spoken about this much. But they (doctors) think the healing process is that you should see the baby, and I said ‘no she’s not going to see the baby’ because she will be traumatised,” he said.
“(Belinda) said, ‘Honey I think we should do it’ and I said, ‘No I think this is ridiculous I think we should move on and forget about it’.
The radio host said that in the end they decided to do it, describing it as ” the best thing” they they ever did.
“We had closure … to say hello and say goodbye to Cayley-Jay. It was hard … but I think it definitely helped with us getting over that moment.”
Ryan and Belinda decided to try and fall pregnant again, and are now parents to two gorgeous sons, Hewy, 8, and Lenny, 4.
