As Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral was televised, many noticeable attendees were spotted – from international leaders, Royal family members and even a few Aussies.

But fans were left scratching their heads when they saw Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve star, Sandra Oh, 51, in attendance.

Unlike Royal weddings, such as Harry and Meghan’s where a number of Hollywood stars were easily spotted – the state funeral had a strict guest list, with invites only given to a number of recipients.

Sandra Oh joined the 2000 mourners at Westminster Abbey on Monday night as a member of the Candian delegation, wearing a black dress, black hat and a Canadian badge.

The Canadian-born actress was appointed an officer of the Order of Canada in June this year and joined artist Gregory Charles, Swimmer Mark Tewksbury and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the service.

Sandra received the honour due to “her artistic career filled with memorable stage, television and film roles in Canada and abroad,” explained via the Governor General of Canada’s website.

Sandra, who played Dr Cristina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy for ten years, is also well known for her starring role in Killing Eve and Disney’s animated film Turning Red

This isn’t the first time Sandra Oh has represented Canada, in 2019 she also fronted Air Canada’s “Travel Like A Canadian” global campaign.

The light-hearted campaign poked fun at the politeness of Canadians – and their very Canadian phrases such as “loonie-toonie” and “ketchup chips.”

The global ad featured Sandra walking through an airport and teaching other cultures how to act like a local.

Whilst Sandra Oh was one of the few Canadian guests, ten local Australians were also invited to the Queen’s state funeral service.

Alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, disability advocate Dylan Alcott was also in attendance.

Dylan famously made the Queen giggle during a zoom call earlier this year, where he made a number of cheeky quips.

During the call, he joked about his tennis career and retirement, telling the Queen he was “looking forward to coming to Wimbledon and drinking a Pimms this time rather than playing the whole time.”

His quip earned a chuckle from the monarch who replied with an “Oh, right!”
