Sylvia Jeffreys is back at work after six months of maternity leave, but the mum-of-one took some time to reflect on her time with baby Oscar and why she’s “so happy” to be returning to the small screen.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday evening, Sylvia, 34, shared a sweet selfie of herself and her nearly six-month-old son.
“Six months of slow mornings with my little mate have come to an end. I know everyone says it but I honestly don’t know where that time has gone,” she penned in the caption.
She then spoke of her Today Extra co-host adding: “I’m so happy though to be starting my day with my other, less spewy but arguably more mischievous mate @davidcampbell73 as I head back to #TodayExtra tomorrow morning. And even better, I get to share hosting duties with the delightful @belinda.russell who’ll be at the desk on Thursdays and Fridays while my little family finds its new rhythm.”
“Now, let’s see if this live tv bizzo is just like riding a bike. Dare you to tune in and find out. See you at 9am.”
Sylvia’s Channel Nine colleagues couldn’t contain their excitement in the comments.
“Can’t wait to see your beautiful face on the tele! Have a wonderful first day back mama,” reporter Natalia Cooper commented.
Newsreader Christine Ahern added: “So good to have you back mofy!!”
Meanwhile David Campbell jokingly wrote: “I can’t promise I won’t spew with excitement.”
Sylvia later shared a selfie featuring herself and David with the caption: “Hello studio lights and makeup and nice, clean clothes. And @davidcampbell73!!! I’ve missed you all. See you on the 📺 at 9am.@thetodayshow.”
Sylvia and husband Peter Stefanovic welcomed their son Oscar in February this year.
When she announced his arrival earlier this year, she captioned the first snap of her son: “Our beautiful boy, Oscar Hamilton Stefanovic 💙 3.4kg, deep blue eyes and perfectly healthy. He’s absolute magic.”
Meanwhile Peter wrote in his first post as a dad: “We’ve got our own Oscar! I’m so unbelievably proud of @sylviajeffreys and our new best mate. Love is strong. Life is fantastic.”
In a chat with the Sydney Morning Herald, Sylvia confessed that despite the first three months of parenthood being “a little dicey”, they’ve found themselves in “a nice pattern”.
Whilst much of Oscar’s life has been during a pandemic, the Today Extra host said motherhood feels like “someone has struck a match in my heart.”
“Like everything is on fire, it is so strong and overwhelming. I cry at the drop of a hat, and not from sadness, but this immense feeling of love and gratitude. The consequences of everything I do are not just on me now, they are on him.”
