Set on the planet of Thra some time before the events in the film, the series will focus on three Gelflings voiced by Robin Hood‘s Taron Egerton, Game of Thrones and Maze Runner star Nathalie Emmanuel and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Miniaturist). With their home dying, the trio will embark on a journey to save their home and come into contact with the Skeksis, the evil race seen in The Dark Crystal.

Also signing on to lend their voices to Age of Resistance, which will feature a huge array of puppet characters but no CGI, are Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham-Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Alicia Vikander, who will all play Gelflings.

Meanwhile, Mark Hamill, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Simon Pegg and Andy Samberg will feature in other roles. Aughra, the oracle who featured in the original film, will return for the prequel, and be played by Donna Kimball.

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will premiere on Netflix in 2019.
