We’re not even 5 minutes into The Bachelor Australia and Abbie Chatfield is seriously coping it.
Matt Angew’s family have skipped the trip to South Africa, instead besties Jason and pal Kate jet on over to help with the tough ask of WHO SHOULD WIN THAT LARSEN RING.
Oh, and Matt Agnew’s heart.

Matt kicks off the interaction, telling the producers: “I’m very interested to know what Kate and Jason think about Abbie. I know that Kate will definitely hit her with some hard questions and definitely try and really find out if there’s something that I’m missing because I’ve got my blinkers on.”
Kate decides to be super mum and pulls Abbie aside for a one-on-one immediately.
AND HOLY WOW.
“So, I’ve gotta be honest, I was surprised to hear that you had come down to the final two,” Kate tells her.
“You know, last time when I met you, there were the concerns about your age and if you’re here for the same reasons or have the same sort of time line and goals that he does in life.”
“I’m surprised you’re still here “because I think that you and Matt have different values.”
KATE THEN WALKS OUT.
Like, woah.
She returns and barrages Abbie with Qs.
Including why do they work.
Abbie tells her: “I think that Matt and I, we just make sense and we can see the fun in a lot of things and see the positives in a lot of things in life.”
Kate: “Yeah. What do you like to do for fun?”
Abbie: “I love socialising, obviously. That’s, like, ideal, socialising. Usually my idea of fun time is we have this book club, but it’s more of a wine club. You know, a “book club”. “
Abbie tells the producers: “I’m almost certain Kate just doesn’t want me to end up with Matt. I don’t think she thinks that I’m old enough for Matt or serious enough for Matt, we have nothing in common. But I’m hoping that I can fix things and what I say will change that. I’ve overcome a lot of things in my life.”
She then chats to Kate telling her: “And even though I am quite young – and I completely understand there may be some reservations there, like, I totally get it – I have had a lot of lived experience. From when I was born, um… Like, my dad left when I was born, so having a single mother, it forces you to grow up a bit faster. And then she got remarried, and then I worked three jobs in Grade 12, and then I’ve had, you know, some pretty, I guess, character-building, if we can put it in a positive light, experiences happen. So, I’m just at a point where I do want… I guess put it this way, my whole life I’ve wanted to find stability and reliability, and I think that through working through all those really difficult times, all I want is just something that’s stable, normal and comfortable.”
Kate isn’t convinced.

Abbie shares on national TV: “I feel like Kate, she’s already made up her mind about me.”
