James ‘Harry’ Harris, 35, Adelaide, South Australia
Three years after splitting with former wife Kate Whiting, House Rules star James “Harry” Harris is back on TV and ready for a second chance at finding love with the Bachelorettes.
“I’m looking for someone who can make me laugh, doesn’t take herself too seriously and has a great smile,’ the 35-year-old builder told WHO, when asked why he applied for the dating show.
But the father of five-year-old son Xavier got more than he bargained for when he strolled down the red carpet to find not one but two beautiful ladies waiting for him.
“I was really nervous, but having the two of them actually made it easier to talk,” he explained.
Harris admits one of the bubbly sisters immediately caught his attention.
“Elly had a beautiful, cheeky smile and a real sparkle in her eye,” he said of their first encounter.
The Adelaide-based dad also made a huge impression on the sisters, receiving the country rose for making the best “first impression” at the cocktail party.
The highly coveted rose means he not only scores the first double date with Elly and Becky but also gets to choose another suitor vying for the girls’ attention to accompany them on the outing.
“I was stoked. I wasn’t expecting it at all,” Harris admits.
He believes it was his “honesty” that made him stand out.
“I was just like, ‘I’m here to find love. I’m older and I’ve been in love before and I really want someone to spoil.’ I was there for the right reasons and I feel the girls could tell that,” he explained.
Sajed Bakhsh, 25, Adelaide, SA
When it comes to finding love, Sajed Bakhsh isn’t afraid to reach for the sky.
A true romantic, the 25-year-old decided to use the stars to help him stand out from the other contestants when he met Elly and Becky on the red carpet.
Pulling out a mat, the Afghanistan-born personal trainer invited the sisters to lay down on the ground next to him to appreciate the beautiful night and take in a spot of stargazing.
“I wanted to be different but still authentic,” he told WHO of the sweet moment.
After his last relationship ended a couple of years ago due to long-distance issues, Bakhsh – who believes in love at first sight – wasn’t going to sit around and wait for love to find him anymore.
“I believe in The One, but you need to go out and look for it,” he said of his motivation to apply for the hit dating show.
Shannon Karaka, 30, New South Wales
Proud of his Polynesian background, Shannon Karaka knew the perfect way to make a splash the first time he met Elly and Becky.
Accompanied by his five brothers, the 30-year-old performed a moving rendition of the haka, a traditional Maori ceremonial dance associated with battle preparations, on the red carpet.
“I wanted to make a strong first impression, keep the momentum going and stay top of mind,” he said of his strategy for his first meeting.
While he missed out on the country rose, his big heart and easy-going attitude impressed fellow suitor Harris, scoring him a spot on the first date.
