Robert Guillaume, actor and voice of The Lion King’s Rafiki, dead at 89

The actor passed after a battle with prostate cancer.

Robert Guillaume, best known for playing Benson in the TV series Benson of the same name, has died at age 89.

His wife Donna Guillaume told CNN that the actor has battled prostate cancer. 

“He kinda went the way everyone wishes they could, surrounded by love and in his sleep,” she said

Guillaume was also well known for voicing the beloved Rafiki in 1994’s The Lion King, which won him a Grammy for a spoken word recording.

He also won an Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a comedy for his role in Benson in 1985. 

Guillaume is survived by his four children.
