Nicole Kidman, 50, and husband Keith Urban, 50, were among the famous faces at this year’s TIME 100 gala held on April 24 at the Lincoln Center in New York City. The annual event honours the year’s most influential people, as recognised by TIME magazine for achievements in one of five categories: Pioneers, Leaders, Artists, Titans and Icons.
Kidman made the list alongside other Hollywood heavyweights, politicians, sportspeople, activists, scientists and change-provokers from around the world. Ahead of the event, the Oscar-winning actress was given a heartfelt tribute by friend and fellow actress Naomi Watts, who said, “Beyond being an outstanding actor, Nicole has intelligence, compassion, kindness and humor that make her the epitome of a great woman and friend. There is no question that I and audiences the world over will continue to value and admire her for decades to come.”
Other attendees at the gala included actress Millie Bobbie Brown, San Juan mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, actor-director John Krasinski, and Parkland, Florida student activists Alex Wind, Cameron Kasky, Emma Gonzalez, Jaclyn Corin, and David Hogg, all of whom were included on TIME’s list.
Guests were treated to performances by teenage musician Shawn Mendes and Jennifer Lopez, both honourees, while TIME 100 members Olympic skater Adam Rippon and This Is Us star Sterling K Brown gave toasts at the dinner.
The Time 100 was first published in 1999, and this year recognised luminaries as diverse as rapper Cardi B, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, Cambridge Analytica whistle-blower Christopher Wylie, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who both made the list in their own right.
