According to recent reports, Meghan Markle will not be inviting sister-in-law Kate Middleton to her 38th birthday celebrations at Frogmore Cottage.

A royal source told The Sun that “It is unlikely that the Cambridges will be invited to Meghan’s 38th birthday on Sunday.”

Meghan and Harry were also reportedly absent from Kate’s 37th birthday celebrations in January at Anmer Hall near Sandringham.

“Frogmore Cottage will host a celebration for Meghan’s birthday,” said the insider, highlighting that Meghan’s birthday party will be a low-key event.

However, there may be another reason for Meghan’s small guest list.

“The Clooney clan will be in Villa Oleandra on Lake Como and the Sussexes will not want to be seen enjoying more of their lavish hospitality after the PR disaster backlash post the US baby shower,” the source said.

The royal came under fire after her extravagant baby shower prior to the birth of her son Archie Harrison – which involved a private jet, the most expensive suite in New York and celebrity-heavy guestlist.

Meghan appears to be dialling back to avoid being criticized for behaving like a celebrity instead of a royal.

In related news, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wished Meghan a happy birthday from the Kensington Royal Instagram account.

The sweet photo was taken on Christmas Day in 2018 at a church in Sandringham and featured Prince William and Kate alongside Meghan, Prince Harry and Prince Charles.

“Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex today!” read the caption, accompanied by a balloon emoji.

Prince Harry also shared a touching birthday message to his wife from the Sussex Royal Instagram account.

“Wishing HRH The Duchess of Sussex a very Happy Birthday 🎂 ‘Happy Birthday to my amazing wife. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!’ – Love, H,” said the caption, which was attached to a photo of the Duchess of Sussex looking radiant in a blue dress on their visit to Tongo in October last year.

According to a royal insider, Prince Harry also purchased a sweet memento for his wife as a birthday gift.

Speaking to Fabulous Digital, the souce said: “This year there will be a birthday gift from Archie and the odds are on a sepia or black and white photograph of her precious son in a solid silver frame from Aspreys.

“The precious present is likely to have an engraving chosen by Harry that will make it extra special.

“And Harry has a weakness for designing jewellery for Meghan, so it is expected that the royal will design another stunning piece – likely to be earrings – as a Sussex surprise.”

Edward Enniful – the editor of British Vogue and Meghan’s recent collaborative partner – commented on Harry’s post wishing the 38-year-old a happy birthday.

Jameela Jamil, star of The Good Place, also commented on the post with a birthday message.

The actress was one of 15 impactful women who featured in Meghan’s guest-edit of Vogue September, along with Jane FondaSalma Hayek and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

The 33-year-old penned an essay for the issue, opening up about her experience with anorexia and struggling to have body positivity.
