Some reviews have called director David Ayer’s fantasy flick “a disaster” and “the worst movie of 2017.”

Bright, sees which also stars Joel Edgerton, is rumoured to have cost the streaming service US$90 million.

One reviewer from IndieWire said, “There’s boring, there’s bad, and then there’s Bright, a movie so profoundly awful that Republicans will probably try to pass it into law over Christmas break.”

Rolling Stone noted, “You’ll get lots of violence and colorful threats and confusing shoot-outs, but you’re not going to get much meaning. In other words, this is not the Suicide Squad that liberals want.”

“Even Will Smith’s irrepressible charisma can’t compete with the unrelentingly muddy production design, the poorly conceived characters and a profoundly stupid racial metaphor that somehow amplifies stereotypes of actual ethnic groups,” The Wrap wrote.

Bright begins steaming on Netflix on December 22.
