There’s a complicated premise behind this adaptation of comic book The Umbrella Academy, now a new Netflix series. Watch the trailer below.
It involves a number of births to women who weren’t actually pregnant and an apocalyptic future that has to be stopped, all of which is reminiscent of Heroes.
At its heart, though, the 10-part series is a family drama about a group of (mostly) grown-up children who have gone their separate ways being brought back together following the death of their adoptive father, Reginald Hargreeves.
The show gets bogged down as the siblings deal with their tensions and the impact being super-powered has had on most of them - except Ellen Page's violinst, Vanya - but it’s nothing a dance sequence to Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” can’t alleviate. (On Netflix from Fri., Feb. 15) 3 stars
