Books are having a major moment. Whether it’s the latest romantasy obsession blowing up on TikTok or a celebrity book club pick climbing the charts, reading is no longer a solo hobby — it’s pop culture.

And with the rise of #BookTok and #BookNook (clocking over a casual 300 billion views combined), it makes sense that the way we read is getting a glow-up, too.

Reading nooks — those perfectly styled little reading corners — are popping up everywhere, from inner-city apartments to suburban bedrooms. They’re cosy, creative, and completely customisable.

Think plush chairs, mood lighting, stacked TBR piles, and maybe even a cute cup of tea (or wine) within reach. It’s the perfect blend of comfort and aesthetic — and yes, it looks great on the grid too.

What is a reading nook?

A reading nook is a small, cosy space dedicated to relaxing with a book — usually styled with a comfy chair, good lighting, and a few personal touches like cushions, throws, or a side table.

It can be as simple as a corner of your bedroom or as stylish as a Pinterest-worthy setup. The goal? A chill, inviting spot that makes you actually want to sit down and read (or scroll, no judgment).

So, how do I create a reading nook?

We’re so glad you asked — because we’ve found the perfect pieces to help you design a cosy, stylish corner you’ll actually want to spend time in. As Katie Turner, stylist at Temple & Webster, puts it:

“The rise of #BookTok and #BookNook has reminded us that reading is as much about the experience as it is about the story itself. A great book nook blends atmosphere and function; it’s your own little sanctuary where you can slow down, unplug, and get lost in another world.”

Start with a comfortable armchair you can sink into, a side table for your tea or coffee, and a mix of floor and table lamps for that warm, inviting glow. Katie also suggests styling your shelving with a mix of books, plants, decor, and artwork.

“A bookshelf completely lined with books can look quite heavy, so I try to do clusters of books interspersed with plants, decor, and artworks… This is a really beautiful way to showcase sentimental pictures or personal items.”

Finally, add colour and texture that reflect your favourite reads: deep greens and timbers for dark academia, rich velvets and reds for romantasy, breezy blues and yellows for summer romances, or refined minimalism for the non-fiction lover.

“Whatever your style, the key is creating a space that feels inviting enough to make you want to while away the hours,” she adds.
