Bannisters, Port Stephens

The team behind Bannisters by the Sea and Bannisters Pavilion at Mollymook on the New South Wales South Coast have brought their barefoot luxury to Port Stephens.

Occupying the beachfront site of the former Salamander Shores at Soldier Point, Bannisters Port Stephens opened its doors late last year and this four-star boutique hotel is an idyllic romantic coastal getaway for two.

The hotel, 45 minutes from Newcastle, has 80 rooms, including four luxury suites and a penthouse, and an infinity pool with treetop and bay vistas.

Guests can enjoy cocktails and light dishes at the Terrace bar, or have a casual drink and listen to live music at Bannisters Tavern.

Of course, Bannisters signature Rick Stein restaurant – with chef Mitchell Turner at the helm - will serve the finest locally caught seafood.

 Nightfall

Sleeping under the stars in front of a rotating fire with all of the luxurious comforts of a hotel makes for one romantic escape.

Such is the case at Nightfall, located in Queensland’s ancient Lamington National Park, which strikes the perfect balance between eco and luxury.

Known for their focus on sustainability, this luxurious camp offers the ultimate glamping experience while also respecting the beautiful, natural environment.

Each bespoke tent boasts a king-sized bed, bathtubs, and well-appointed bathrooms and guests have the opportunity to self-cater or enjoy a fully catered escape complete with organic, fire-cooked cuisine.

For added romance, lovers can enjoy a massage in the creek, indulge in a gourmet hamper, swim in crystal-clear creeks and relax around the evening campfire.

Privacy is key at Nightfall, which only caters for a maximum of eight guests at any one time.

Jonah’s Restaurant and Boutique Hotel, Whale Beach

This iconic boutique hotel may have celebrated its 90th birthday on Australia Day but Jonah’s has lost absolutely none of its romantic charm.

Positioned on the cliff tops of Whale Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the award-winning hotel has hosted a slew of celebrities including Mick Jagger, Bono, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Elle Macpherson and Sam Smith since opening its doors in 1929.

The 11 light-filled ocean retreat rooms have recently undergone a full refurbishment; the décor a fusion of Hamptons meets French Riviera.

Each room has a private balcony and those famous 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean and boasts absolute privacy.

In collaboration with Head Sommelier Niels Sluiman, executive Chef Matteo Zamboni has designed a new summer menu featuring contemporary Italian dishes showcasing Australia’s finest seafood and fresh produce.

Those who want to go all out and arrive by a seaplane; Jonah’s can arrange it along with a host of other bespoke experiences.

Bedarra Island Resort

A TROPICAL sanctuary in the heart of Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef, this secluded retreat epitomises barefoot luxury.

Located just a short boat ride from Mission Beach, the ultra-private Bedarra Island Resort sets the scene for romance and is the ideal place to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with your partner.

The all-inclusive resort has only 10 guest villas hidden amongst the 45 hectares of tropical rainforest, all offering absolute privacy and views over the ocean and Great Barrier Reef.

Guests can kayak, SUP, fish, enjoy self-guided rainforest walks or just sit back and enjoy the natural beauty and solitude of this island refuge.

With sustainability at its heart, Bedarra Island uses solar power instead of diesel generators, smart design to allow for breezeways rather than air conditioners and water from a natural spring so you can relax and indulge guilt-free with your love.
