What is Westworld about?
This question was a tad easier to answer in 2016, when the show only had one season and was a little bit less complicated. However, Westworld is basically a sci-fi series that’s shifted away from its Western-looking roots as more seasons have been released.
Originally, it focused on the experiences of ‘Hosts’, robotic beings who were members at an American Old West-themed park, called Westworld. Programmed to fulfil the desires of the park’s visitors, the Hosts were prevented from harming the guests and forced to engage in all kinds of violent and sexual fantasies desired by the guests.
But as the episodes continued, the Hosts were able to achieve a level of sentience, turning the experiences of the guests around once they found the ability to protect themselves, and even kill human visitors to the park.
By season three, the Hosts were escaping to real life, which in the show is the mid-21st century, which appears as a bit of a technological dystopia.
Who is in Westworld?
Westworld has a pretty massive, star-studded cast, most of which will be returning for the fourth season.
Evan Rachel Wood has starred as Dolores Abernathy for three seasons now, and will be returning for season four. Thandiwe Newton will also return as Maeve Millay.
They will be joined by Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright, two human characters who have been involved in Westworld’s secrets from the very beginning.
Also returning for the fourth series are Australian actor Luke Hemsworth, and Thor: Ragnarok star Tessa Thompson. Aaron Paul, best known as Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad, will be returning after his first appearance on the show in season three, while recent Oscar winner Ariana DeBose will join as a recurring guest star.
Why should I watch Westworld?
If you’re not into Westworld, you’re missing out, and you have just over a month to catch up on BINGE before the new season.
Basically, the show is a big deal. When it debuted in the US on HBO it had the network’s highest viewership ratings for a premiere in two years, knocking out True Detective’s title from 2014.
It’s also the most-watched first season of any HBO original series, so we’re betting there’s something in there for everyone.
The stellar acting on the show has also lead to a number of awards and accolades – including a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, which went to Thandiwe Newton in 2018.
Where can I watch Westworld?
Seasons 1-3 of Westworld are available to watch now on BINGE.
The new season will premiere on June 27, 2022, and we’re expecting episodes to drop weekly.
