Who will star in House of the Dragon?
A star-studded ensemble cast is involved in the project, with Paddy Considine starring as King Viserys Targaryen.
Matt Smith, who is best known for his role as The Doctor in Doctor Who and Prince Philip in The Crown, will star as Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother to Viserys. Described as a peerless warriror and a dragonrider, Daemon possesses the true blood of the dragon, just as Daenerys and Jon Snow did.
The lead actors will be joined by Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Rhys Ifans (of Notting Hill fame!).
Australian actor Ryan Corr is also expected to make an appearance in the role of Ser Harwin Strong.
Best known for his work in Bloom, Packed to the Rafters, and Blue Water High, this role sees him breaking into international projects.
Another Australian, Milly Alcock, will also be seen among the cast.
What can we expect from House of the Dragon?
While Game of Thrones captivated audiences across its eight seasons, it left a bad taste in the mouth of many fans when it didn’t quite live up to expectations.
The new series does look every bit as captivating as the early seasons of the last, and with author of the source material, George R. R. Martin joining the project as an executive producer, we’re expecting more great television, and probably a fair bit of sex and gore to go with it.
House of the Dragon’s latest trailer also gives fans a first look at the season, ending with an ominous warning: “History does not remember blood. It remembers names.”
When King Viserys I Targeyen names his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra, as his successor to the Iron Throne, it causes quite the stir amongst his subjects, who aren't exactly open to the idea of a woman ruling the Seven Kingdoms.
The result is a war that splits Westeros in two, with all the same thrills and violence that we saw in Game of Thrones making a return. But whether it lives up to the previous series, or improves it, remains to be seen. Bring on August!
