The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills mainstay Kyle Richards has had a fascinating life, and the drama that unfolded during her childhood is the inspiration for new Stan series American Woman (watch the trailer below).
In the show, Alicia Silverstone plays Bonnie Nolan, who, when we meet her, has the perfect Beverly Hills life, until she discovers her husband (James Tupper) is cheating on her. Rather than put up with an unfaithful spouse, as so many other women would have in 1975, when this series is set, the mother of two is determined to make it without him.
Easier said than done, with the odds stacked against a woman whose job has been to stay at home with the kids and host swanky poolside parties at the now-estranged couple’s pad. Despite some none-too-subtle performances from the cast, which also includes Mena Suvari as one of Bonnie’s BFFs, and heavy-handed dialogue – “This isn’t a democracy, it’s a marriage” – this is an easy-to-binge dramedy.
