Big Brother‘s Anthony Drew seems to be up to his old tricks, finding love once more on the popular reality show – but did it end in heartbreak again?
In 2013, he fell head over heels for Tully Smyth, creating one of the biggest dramas in Australian reality TV history.
In short, the pair began a relationship while Tully was still in another relationship, with her girlfriend Tahlia Farrant watching on from outside.
And while they have both returned to the house for the 2022 season, Tully is now a taken woman, and Drew’s head has been turned by new housemate and intimacy coach Sam Manovski.
Now the lovebirds have been torn apart, with Sam evicted on Monday night, so can their love survive in the real world? Let’s find out.
Quick recap: how did Sam and Drew come to be?
Drew entered the competition a few days in, after some drama had already swirled around Sam. She entered the house on night one to find her former flame, Josh Goudswaard, was also a competitor on this season.
Josh quickly revealed he wasn’t over Sam, admitting that she was his ‘dream girl’, and he hoped to start things back up again. Sam had the unhappy task of letting him down easy shortly before he was evicted, only for Drew and fellow former housemates Layla Subritzky and Trevor Butler to enter via Big Brother’s sewer.
Drew caught Sam’s eye immediately, and she confided in Big Brother that she found him ‘distracting’. When Drew was saved from eviction, he made his feelings known, kissing Sam for the first time. Afterwards, they seem to only become more enamoured.
Plenty more kisses followed, as well as an emotional parting when Sam was evicted… only for the eviction to be cancelled and Sam to be reunited with her beau. That is, until she was evicted a second tearful time, and this time it was for good.
We’d say they were a couple by Big Brother standards – they spent plenty of time wrapped around each other and shared a smooch or one hundred, but does that mean they’ve made it on the outside?
Are Big Brother’s Sam and Drew still together?
Nope! Sam’s cryptic comments after being evicted had fans guessing she and Drew were over and she confirmed it to TV WEEK soon after.
“[Our relationship] continued for about a month outside the house, and then we decided that we’re just too different and parted ways,” she told the outlet.
“I think that it was great for the experience and what we shared in the house was amazing. Unfortunately we have very different lifestyles and we’re just so different. We are not meant to be together.”
Sam and Drew are both in their early 30s and with their connection in the house looking strong, fans expected them to pursue it on the outside.
However, after being booted Sam addressed their romance on Instagram and said, “I met a guy, wore my heart on my sleeve and explored a connection.
“What can I say, I am a sucker for romance and these were the perfect conditions to experience a relationship in a totally different way. Who gets to spend time with someone without their phone, a tv or any other ‘normal’ distraction? Not many – and I’m glad I got to have that.
“Did it impact my experience in the house? Yes. And if I had my time again, I would do things differently but life isn’t about getting it right.”
Does that mean she regrets the romance? We’re not sure, but it’s definitely over.
While she and Drew are over, that doesn’t mean Sam is single – she’s found new love with a guy who is much more “honest and real” than Drew. Ouch!
