The Michael Jackson biopic film, aptly named Michael, comes to cinemas today and the feedback has been surprisingly positive. The man and the musical icon have two very different reputations, but with his family heavily involved in the film’s production (and his nephew even starring as him), it casts a a redeeming light.
The film shows Michael’s journey from a child star in Jackson 5 to his solo stardom, and is a far cry from the Netflix documentary Leaving Neverland.
With existing IPs reigning supreme in the world of entertainment at the moment (hello The Devil Wears Prada 2), we wanted to point out other biopics in the works if you want a good stickybeak into A-list celebs and their lives.

I Play Rocky
Oh you better believe they’re releasing a biopic about the one and only Sylvester Stallone.
Not only did he star in the iconic Rocky franchise but he wrote the first movie and fought to star in what became on of Hollywood’s most beloved underdog stories.
The film will be released in Novmeber.
Joni Mitchell biopic filming set to kick off
Filming is currently underway for the biopic on Joni Mitchell, the Canadian singer-songwriter who will be played by both Anya Taylor-Joy and Meryl Streep.
Talk about epic casting.
The film will delve into the two eras of Joni’s life.
First, the rise to fame in the California music scene of the ’60s, and then the present-day version of the artists behind classic songs Big Yellow Taxi and Both Sides Now.
The release date is still TBC.
Audrey Hepburn
Lily Collins, most famous for Emily in Paris, will star as the iconic Audrey Hepburn in an upcoming biopic.
The film will focus on the making of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which cemented Hepburn as a global fashion and cultural icon.
The project is currently under development with no official release date announced, however, the film has been a work in process for over 10 years!
Madonna
There has been talk of a Madonna biopic film for years before it was canned, and then the project was revived as a tv show.
The casting process was extensive, with a ‘bootcamp’ set-up for actors competing for the coveted role.
Julia Garner eventually lucked out and has been cast as the leading lady, with a release date not yet confirmed.

Nat King Cole
The legendary jazz singer will be played by Colman Domingo, who is also set to make his directorial debut.
We don’t know much about it, other than it being in development for years and it’s been pitched as a PG-13 in order to reach a wider audience.
The Beatles – a four-film cinematic event
Each of The Beatles will rightfully get their own separate film in this cinematic event, with all directed by Sam Mendes.
It’s the first time the band has granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film, and it’s very exciting.
Harris Dickinson will play Kohn Lennon, Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison and Ringer Starr will be played by Barry Keoghan.
