Harry Potter fans will know that Katie Leung, who joined the Bridgerton universe as Lady Araminta Gun this season, played Cho Chang in the films and was one of Harry’s love interests before he ultimately ended up with Ginny Weasley.

However, there was a subtle and very fun nod toward Katie’s famous role in Harry Potter in Bridgerton… and you may have missed it.

Beware – Spoilers for season four, part two of Bridgerton ahead!

Bridgerton fans spot Harry Potter reference

In the second part of this season, Araminta, who is Sophie Baek’s (Yerin Ha) stepmother, notices she’s missing a pair of diamond shoe clips right around the time Sophie leaves the house.

She doesn’t realise that her own daughter, Posy (Isabella Wei), was responsible for the missing shoe clips and gave them to Sophie, and wants to pin the theft on her stepdaughter (who tried to sell the clips in part one but found they were basically worthless).

In one scene, Araminta speaks to Mrs Varley (Lorraine Ashbourne), who, as fans know, was the housekeeper for the Featherington family, but moved to Penwood House to work for the Guns, about the shoe clips.

“Have you yet searched through the crates for my missing shoe clips?” Araminta questions.

“Ma’am, we have,” Varley says. “We could not locate the additional pair.”

“I had 37 pairs of shoe clips before the move, I now only have 36. I counted the last time my shoes were all cleaned,” Araminta responds.

Harry Potter fans will know that this comment sounds oddly familiar.

If you go back to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, you’ll remember Dudley Dursley (Harry Melling) asking about his birthday presents, “How many are there?”

“36, I counted them myself,” Vernon Dursley (Richard Griffiths) proudly responds.

“36? But last year, last year I had 37!” Dudley shouts.

One Instagram user shared a clip that pointed out the similarity between the scenes, writing, “Did anyone else catch this?! LOL my husband heard me watching the episode, and he actually pointed it out.”

“I love how they had @katieleung aka Cho Chang in the films say this line – so perfect for us Harry Potter x Bridgerton girlies!”

“Omg didn’t even click for us then, this is such a cool, subtle reference,” one person responded.

“Omggggg how dare I call myself the biggest Harry Potter fan and I didn’t catch this, I’m ashamed lol,” another quipped.

“Ohh! I thought it sounded familiar!” wrote a third.

“The writers on this show are insane,” yet another added.

Countless others questioned how they could have missed such an obvious Easter Egg, while some suggested it was merely a coincidence.

We’re going to choose to believe it was by choice!
