Bridgerton season four has come to a close with Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek finding love and finally marrying. But it was another couple that caught viewers’ attention towards the end of the episode.

Eagle-eyed fans became tearful when they noticed a hidden detail in Queen Charlotte’s (Golda Rosheuvel) outfit during her ball.

The moment occurred during the scene where the Queen and Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) giggled together over Alice Mondrich’s plan to help Benedict and Sophie be seen as a viable match for the Queen (and the ton).

What starts with the pair giggling quickly turns into tears.

The Queen tells Lady Danbury, “That was fun, Lady Danbury… We have such fun together.”

“I will miss you,” she tearfully adds, before joking about her tears, “I command these to stop!”

The women are once again left in hysterical laughter, but something else in the scene caught viewers’ attention.

Hidden detail spotted in Bridgerton season four finale

During the ball, Queen Charlotte wears a portrait of her husband, King George, front and centre on her gown for the evening.

One fan shared a video pointing out the detail (which I admit I missed when I watched the episode, oops!).

“This scene was everything, but did you notice this…” the fan wrote, before zooming in on the portrait and revealing it’s a real historic portrait.

Another fan responded, “I HAVE BEEN WAITING for someone else to notice… She had her boo on a ‘tee shirt’ at the party since he couldn’t be there to support her in that moment.

“The details in this show will have you sobbing in your snacks.”

“It’s all in the details, this show is all details. Bridgerton is amazing,” a third said.

“This hit me harder than any other scene in the latest series,” someone else added. “Queen Charlotte will always be the most superior season IMO.”

“That scene ripped me to shreds,” yet another said.

Why does King George rarely appear in Bridgerton?

In Bridgerton, King George III is largely absent from public life due to his declining mental and physical health, which fans would have seen the beginning of in the spin-off Queen Charlotte.

While Queen Charlotte lives in Buckingham House in Bridgerton, George lives in seclusion in Kew Palace.

When Lady Danbury says she wants to leave London, the Queen admits she doesn’t want to be left alone in case George dies, and her friend is gone.

In real-life, King George died in 1820, about two years after Queen Charlotte died in 1818.

The Bridgerton book series is set between 1813 and 1827.
