Catherine Zeta-Jones and her husband, Michael Douglas, have listed their huge Georgian-style mansion in upstate New York for $18 million, after their children, Dylan, 23, and Carys, 21, flew the coop.
“Now that both our son and daughter have left the nest it seems like the right time to sell,” Zeta-Jones told The Wall Street Journal after listing the four-storey waterfront home, which sits on 12 acres, five years after they purchased it for $6.8 million.
“When I purchased our Irvington home, I knew our family would share many happy times here, and we have!”
Since Dylan and Carys vacated the eight-bedroom, 12-bathroom mansion, the actress, 54, and Douglas, 79, have been spending more and more time in Europe and Bermuda.
The couple has a 10-bedroom home in Spain and a mansion in Bermuda’s exclusive Warwick Parish.
Earlier this year, Douglas hinted he and his wife of more than 20 years were done with life in the US, suggesting a nomadic life to round out his years might be a better option, given his children have left home.
“Catherine and I have been together, it’ll be 25 years this year,” he told The Telegraph. “So it’s been a good ride and I’ve been very fortunate, happy with the choices that I’ve made and now am kind of really backing off and smelling the roses a little more, traveling more.”
With homes in some of the world’s best holiday destinations, we say those roses smell pretty sweet.
How did Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas meet?
For anyone interested in the story, Zeta-Jones caught the eye of Douglas when she played Elena Montero in The Mask of Zorro.
They attended the Deauville Film Festival separately in 1998, but Douglas set up a meeting between the pair.
The age gap between them raised some eyebrows as Zeta Jones was just 29 at the tome, while Douglas was 54.
Zeta Jones discussed the pair’s large age gap in an interview with The Telegraph in 2022.
“We’re just very good with one another, we respect each other, and I never really feel that he’s 25 years older than me,” she said.
“I remember people saying, ‘When you’re 50, he’s going to be 75.’ Well, that’s just maths.”
