Almost a decade after the couple parted ways, Suki Waterhouse has commented on her split from ex-boyfriend Bradley Cooper.
Speaking to British Vogue in June 2024, the 32-year-old spoke candidly about the aftermath of her split from the Maestro star, telling the publication, “When something very public happens to you and the story behind it is dark and difficult, and you’re not actually doing well and you can’t explain yourself to the world, that’s very isolating and disorientating.”
Serving as the inspiration for her 2016 break-up track Brutually, Suki shared that processing her thoughts through her music helped her make sense of her situation at the time, with her lyrics providing an outlet for her emotions.
“You can’t let go of things until you expose them to the sunlight and they shrivel up and die. A lot of it just doesn’t go away,” she shared.
While she did not directly mention Bradley in the latter part of her interview, Suki alluded to the relationship dynamics that came with the couple’s 17-year age gap,
“Your 20s are pretty sadistic. The love I experienced [then] was only ever a fetishisation, and I think when you only get loved in that way, you only get punished,” said Suki, adding, “When you get into your 30s, you’re almost instantly afforded a little bit more respect.”
Looking back on her early relationships, the Daisy Jones & the Six star shared that while her previous romances may have come with their fair share of challenges, Suki shared, “I wouldn’t take anything back.”
“All these chaotic ways that my life went, it was always material.”
“Sometimes you’re going to get an unfair shot, but there’s usually some form of karmic retribution, which I’ve definitely found with certain people. You watch their narrative play out and you’re like, ‘Haha, now everyone else knows you’re s***.'”
