Who was predicted to win the 2025 Golden Globes?

The 2025 Golden Globe Awards shaped up to be a competitive event, with several films vying for top honours. While the previous year’s predictions focused on major blockbuster events, such as Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Poor Things, the landscape shifted more for the 2025 ceremony.

For this year’s awards, Emilia Pérez emerged as a frontrunner with ten nominations – the most for any film in Golden Globe history. Following closely behind were The Brutalist with seven nominations and Conclave with six nominations.

In the acting categories, Timothée Chalamet generated considerable buzz for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, which poised him as a strong contender for his first Best Actor win. For Best Actress, Mikey Madison’s performance in Anora and Nicole Kidman in Babygirl became frontrunners for the latest Golden Globes win.

While the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category is often overlooked, this year’s awards definitely didn’t go unnoticed, with Wicked leading the way with four nominations. The film’s stars, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, each received nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, with the awards also marking Ariana’s first-ever Golden Globes nomination.

For Best Director, Sean Baker (Anora), Edward Berger (Conclave), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), and Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez) were among the favourites. Despite its success, the omission of Wicked director Jon M. Chu from the nominations list raised eyebrows among fans and critics alike.

Over in television land, The Bear dominated the Golden Globes for the second year in a row with five nods, including acting nominations for Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Liza Cólon-Zayas. The show was also strongly positioned to take home the Globe for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy).

Following closely behind are Shōgun and Only Murders in the Building, each receiving four nominations. The television nominations also featured potential accolades for notable first-season shows like Nobody Wants This, The Day of the Jackal, and Presumed Innocent.
