We finally have our first look of the highly-anticipated film adaptation of beloved musical, Wicked.
Starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the new stills from the set offer an insight into the epic – albeit, dark – production for the big screen.

While the films stills don’t give much away (both obscure the full appearance of the film’s starring duo), they give us a taste of the costumes, sets and perhaps general vibes of the blockbuster movie musical.
One image shows Ariana as Glinda, flitting up a long staircase. The 29-year-old singer sports a long, blonde ponytail and a voluminous pink gown.
Meanwhile, the other image released offers a windswept look of Elphaba and her broomstick in what could be an abandoned clocktower. Hmm, intriguing!
Following these first look images, video of Ariana Grande as Glinda has been released.

In 2022, Wicked director Jon M. Chu (In the Heights, Crazy Rich Asians, Step Up 2 & 3) revealed the film adaptation would receive a two-part expansion.
With ‘Part One’ set for release on November 27, 2024, filming is already underway and the team has been drip-feeding details via social media.
In December last year, it was revealed now-Oscar winner, Michelle Yeoh (Everything, Everywhere, All At Once), would join the cast as Madame Morrible. This is Yeoh’s second collaboration with John M Chu, with the pair previously working together for Crazy Rich Asians.
Meanwhile, Jeff Goldblum has been announced as the Wizard (of Oz, yep – that one) and Bridgerton star Johnathan Bailey (who plays eldest brother and season two star, Anthony) will take on the role of the show’s main love interest, Fiyero.
Meanwhile, if you’ve been following Ariana Grande’s behind-the-scenes shots, you may have noticed a few key fashion choices from the skilled triple threat.
In a rehearsal picture posted in August 2022, Grande is seen donning a brown leotard and slick ballet bun. Given her ballet-core styling, featuring Miu Miu’s Satin Ballerinas, is there a chance Ari will serve up some on-pointe dance moves in the film?
Whether it be her newfound style or a nod to her Wicked role, we’ll be sure to see a dance number or two by the look of her scuffed character shoes.
Wicked’s release will come 11 years after Grande’s collaboration with Mika, Popular Song, an interpolation of the original Wicked The Musical soundtrack.
It’s almost as if Ariana manifested the role herself!
