It’s been nearly four years since we last saw Steve Harrington and his magnificent quiff on Stranger Things, but outside the drama of Hawkins, series star Joe Keery has continued to be one of the internet’s favourite Hollywood heartthrobs.
Despite many years of flying under the radar as the indie artist Djo, TikTok eventually uncovered the 32-year-old’s music catalogue, and after putting his discography on high rotation, fans have become eager to uncover the muse that inspired some of Joe’s most romantic and heartbreaking lyrics.
Does Joe Keery have a girlfriend?
We’d love to have a definitive answer for you, but unfortunately, we don’t know too much about Joe’s current relationship status.
In October 2023, Joe was linked to actress Chase Sui Wonders after they were spotted together in New York City, however, based on his most recent interviews, it appears that whatever relationship they had has since come to a close.
Speaking to Teen Vogue ahead of the release of his new album The Crux, Joe reflected on the album’s musical influences, telling the publication, “I was kind of going through a breakup, but a part of going through a breakup is going back to the things that make you who you are.”
Alongside his breakup reflections in his songwriting, the singer also shared his greatest advice for those going through a relationship split, telling Deezer, “Reach out to your friends, and lean on the people in your life.”
“When you’re in a relationship kind of insulated in the comfort of being with one other person, it can be easy to sort of let other things fall to the side, but it’s important to remember that, you know, all relationships in your life are created equally… your friends are as important as the energy you put into them, so the more energy and love you kind of put into them, the more you’ll get out of them.”
Who has Joe Keery dated?
Before the recent rumours, the Stranger Things star was previously in a relationship with his long-term girlfriend, Hot Summer Nights star Maika Monroe.
The couple debuted their new relationship in October 2017 at the Stranger Things 2 premiere red carpet and, throughout their relationship, frequently appeared alongside each other at red carpet events.
Despite appearing regularly at many of Hollywood’s biggest soirees, Joe and Maika rarely commented publicly on their romance.
In August 2021, Joe shared the first brief glimpse into their relationship, telling GQ that since they both work in the entertainment industry, they have “somebody who kind of understands what’s going on with you in a pretty deep way.”
“I think she’s like me. She doesn’t take [fame] all too seriously,” he continued.
With their last joint sighting occurring at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March 2022, many fans believed that Joe and Maika had broken up, and just over two years later, Joe confirmed that the pair had split.
“I had just gone through a big breakup, right as I was leaving Rome [for Finally Dawn], so I was really isolated and focused on my work. My social life pretty much revolved around the show, my work life revolved around the show. We weren’t really leaving due to COVID-19,” he told Variety.
