While the fate of Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers’ love story may still be up in the air for Stranger Things Season 5, series stars Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton’s real-life romance has consistently been a fan favourite since the show premiered in 2016.
After meeting on set in 2015, the couple have kept their relationship largely out of the public eye, and as viewers eagerly start the countdown until the fifth and final season of the show, many fans have continued to grow more curious about the story behind Natalia and Charlie’s long-lasting relationship.

The couple first crossed paths on the set of Stranger Things Season 1 and while fans had secretly hoped that Nancy and Jonathan’s on-screen romance was *actually* happening in real life, rumours surrounding their relationship later began to surface following the show’s premiere after Natalia shared a snap of her and Charlie wearing matching Halloween costumes to Instagram.
After a year of ‘are they? aren’t they?’ chat amongst fans, Natalia and Charlie made their romance red carpet official in December 2017 at the London Fashion Awards.
Since confirming their relationship, Natalia and Charlie have kept their romance almost completely out of the public eye – making only a handful of joint red-carpet appearances together throughout their now nine-year relationship.
Despite their public outings being a rare occurrence, the couple have shared a few brief glimpses into their relationship.
Speaking to V Man in 2019, Charlie opened up about how he and Natalia are able to support one another both on and off the Stranger Things set, sharing, “There are times when you do get stressed, so to go home with someone you work with… You can break down walls with your partner because we work in the same industry and have had similar trajectories.”
“They understand something that maybe no one else would. You go into high-pressure situations together, but you can share those insecurities.”
Later that year, Natalia also opened up about working with Charlie, telling Refinery29, “It’s always really fun. We’re really comfortable with each other, so we can play and feel more free, and we can talk about it before.”
“There’s that sense of who knows if you’ll ever work together with this person ever again? Who knows? This might be your only chance to play like this.”
Throughout their relationship, many fans have also taken the couple’s infrequent public appearances as a potential sign they may have split, but Natalia and Charlie have consistently proven that their romance is still going strong, with the couple most recently stepping out together at Paris Fashion Week in March 2025.
