Sarah Abo is one of the most recognisable faces on Australian television, co-hosting Nine’s Today show each morning alongside industry stalwart Karl Stefanovic.
But much less is known about Abo’s husband of 12 years, Cyrus Moran – and that’s just the way she likes it.
When Abo joined Stefanovic on the breakfast couch in January 2023, naturally there was curiosity about both her professional and personal life.
But in April 2023, a source revealed to New Idea that Abo, 38, was “very protective” of her husband, who was described as “publicity-shy.”
“He much prefers being behind the scenes, supporting his wife as she navigates her way through one of the toughest TV gigs,” the source said.
Her husband does occasionally appear on Abo’s social media, but she rarely – if ever- talks about him on-air or in interviews.
Here’s what we do know about Sarah Abo – currently in Paris with Stefanovic to cover the 2024 Olympics – and her husband Cyrus.
Is Sarah Abo married?
Yes! The Today co-host has been married to Cyrus Moran for more than a decade. The couple wed on 15 December 2012 and spent their honeymoon in Bali.
They loved their time in Bali so much they returned in 2016 to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary.
At the time of their marriage, Abo was working for Network Ten before moving on to SBS and then to Nine for 60 Minutes.
When Abo replaced Allison Langdon on Today, the self-described “real Melbourne girl” packed up her bags and moved to Sydney.
Both Abo and her husband have strong family ties to Melbourne, so they come and go between the two cities.
Who is Sarah Abo’s husband?
Not a lot is known about Moran, but he works as an international trader in the steel industry.
The pair both graduated from Melbourne’s Monash University – Moran finished a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Business the year Abo began her journalism studies.
According to the US Sun, Moran earns an estimated $1.5 million a year as a trader. In Melbourne, he worked at a steel mill where he facilitated trade between Australian and international companies. It’s not clear if he has undertaken a similar role in Sydney.
So private is Abo about Moran that in May 2023, one magazine described him as Abo’s “secret” husband!
The interest around Abo’s husband was high enough for the couple to be “papped” together at Melbourne’s Tullamarine airport two months after she took on the Today gig.
“The journalist beamed at her other half as they strolled through Melbourne Airport after she jetted home for the weekend,” The Daily Mail wrote at the time.
“Her handsome husband dressed casually in a black T-shirt and a pair of jeans. Sarah has worked hard to keep her personal life under wraps, and this is the first time the low-key couple has been papped together.”
What has Sarah Abo said about her husband?
In a rare comment about her husband, Abo said he had been a great support as she adjusted to the early hours of breakfast television.
“He does stay awake when I get out of bed at three, but then quickly goes back to sleep,” she once revealed in an interview. “We’ve adjusted.”
For his 40th birthday, Abo posted a cosy snap of the pair together on Instagram.
“Happy birthday,” she wrote. “Beautiful, blurry you #fortyandfine.”
Moran has also featured in Instagram snaps taken on holiday in Japan and posing in front of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

How much does Sarah Abo earn?
In May 2023 a scandal broke out when it was revealed there was a major pay discrepancy between Abo and co-host Karl Stefanovic’s Today salaries.
A Sydney newspaper leaked the $700,000 pay gap, with Stefanovic reportedly pocketing $1.5 million to Abo’s annual take-home pay of $800,000.
“The news of Karl’s big pay cheque is anxiety-inducing, to say the least,” an insider told New Idea after the scandal broke.”Yes, Sarah is new to breakfast television, but she is not new to Nine. Some are wondering why she isn’t being more equally matched (with Karl).”
