Cruz Hewitt is following in his father Lleyton Hewitt’s sporty footsteps and carving out a career of his own in the tennis world.
The 17-year-old Australian brought back memories of his legendary father as he fought hard for a place during his Australian Open qualifying match on January 13.
However, the teenager (who wore his cap on backwards throughout the match just like his father used to) lost to American player Michael Zheng who is ranked 174th in the world. Cruz is currently ranked 734th in the world and higher in the junior rankings, within the top 50.
With his parents watching on at Melbourne Park, its clear the youngster has huge support behind him and oozes protégé potential.

Who is Cruz Hewitt?
Cruz is the son of former World No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt and actress Bec Hewit.
The Aussie couple also have two daughters – Mia, 20, and Ava, 15.
Born into tennis royalty, Cruz has been hitting the court since he was a child.
His early years were filled with unique opportunities, like practising with Roger Federer at the age of six and spending time at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca. Did someone say sporting nepo baby?
Now that he is older, Cruz is starting to establish his own identity in the sport.

Cruz Hewitt is not known to be publicly dating anyone right now.
However, pictures from the 2026 Australian Open of him sitting courtside with Roger Federer’s 17-year-old twin daughters, Myla and Charlene, have fans asking “Could two tennis dynasties become one?”
The teenager was photographed watching a match with the twins on Tuesday.
While the idea of the progeny of two iconic sports families would make for some serious pop culture lore, there is no solid evidence to suggest that Cruz is romantically involved with either twin.
Who are Myla and Charlene Federer?
Myla and Charlene Federer are the daughters of Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer and his wife, Mirka Federer.
The twins aren’t the only duo in the family, with the famous couple welcoming another set of twins- fraternal twin boys named Leo and Lenny.
In a 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Roger gushed over his children and shared how they may even follow in his footsteps.
“They do play tennis, and we ski, and we’re all learning to golf. We recently tried scuba diving. But the girls were never passionate about tennis, and I was relieved about it,” he said.
How long has Cruz known the Federer twins?
The Hewitt and Federer children are close because their famous tennis dads spent many years competing in the tennis circuit.
In total, the sporting legends played each other 27 times throughout their careers, with Federer winning 18 and Hewitt nine.

What’s next for Cruz?
Cruz’ sights were set on qualifying for the Australian Open’s main draw this January, but it wasn’t meant to be.
The 17-year-old will now focus on competing in the junior tournament.

At a press conference in January last year, he spoke about fans drawing comparisons between him and his father.
“I try to focus on the good things that come with it,” he told Channel 9.
“It doesn’t bother me too much. It is kinda a challenge to be better than him. It’s what I want to do,” his father Lleyton approvingly chimed in saying: “Fingers crossed”.
