Dance Boss star Dannii Minogue has revealed the reason why she wasn’t at her sister Kylie’s lavish 50th birthday celebrations – and confessed how her older sister’s battle with cancer still weighs heavily on her mind.
In a fascinating interview, the star exclusively told WHO’s TV podcast Binge List that although she loves her work in Australia, it means she can’t always be available for commitments overseas.
When asked if it was hard being away from the UK when Kylie hosted her landmark birthday, Dannii didn’t hold back.
‘It was incredibly emotional, because not only was it a big birthday, but to have a family member that… You know, you hate to mention the cancer word… has gone through that,’ she told Binge List.
Revealing the depths of her fears during Kylie’s best cancer battle, Dannii added, ‘And there were moments where we thought, “Will she live?”
‘It brings back a lot. It’s not all bad stuff, you’re celebrating, you’re going, “She’s still here, still strong and my god, having such an incredible year.”
‘There’s so much to celebrate.
‘And of course, we all wanted to be there to celebrate that with her. I said, look we can’t all be there at that time, so let’s do something separate as a family.’
Dannii reveals that the Minogue family have a history of celebrating away from the spotlight, and there will be more of that this year.
‘There was lots of stuff in the papers of everyone arriving and leaving,’ she says of Kylie’s big London party.
‘That is not our thing when we do a family event.
‘Like on her 40th we did a big family thing where we were all together and nobody saw any of it in the press. So, it was kind of like we really want to repeat that – and it doesn’t matter if it’s later in the year, it’s a festival of Kylie.
‘A 50th year, you can make that go for an entire year.’
