She was the Adele of the early 2000s – a British singer who sold millions of albums around the world with her easily palatable brand of pop. And now Dido is back with her first studio album in six years, Still on My Mind.
Although the singer, who shot to fame after Eminem sampled her track “Thank You” on “Stan”, has never been able to recapture the global dominance enjoyed by multi-platinum chart-toppers No Angel and Life for Rent, her occasional returns have always been welcome. Fifth album Still on My Mind is reassuringly familiar – that ethereal voice is unmistakable, and the album’s feel, while current, isn’t a drastic shift in direction, moving between gentler tracks like “Some Kind of Love” and harder (for Dido) electronic tunes like “Friends” and “Take You Home”.
