With Emily in Paris streaming its fifth season on Netflix, all eyes are on the handsome Marcello, played by the very handsome Eugenio Franceschini.

Who is Eugenio Franceschini?
Born in 1991, Italian actor Eugenio Franceschini hails from the city of Verona and acting runs in the family.
“My parents were puppeteers, comedians of the art. I grew up following them around Verona and abroad, especially Spain, where I even attended third or fourth grade. I’m a bit of a gypsy; I’ve travelled a lot, and it was a fundamental part of my education,” he revealed in a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone Italia.
“After high school, I told him I wanted to become an actor, and he advised me against it. For me, doing this job meant going on tour with his company, and he wisely said, ‘Okay, be an actor, but go to Rome and try to get into the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.'”
Not only did Eugenio make it, but he’s become one of Italy’s biggest acting names with film and TV credits including Grand Hotel (2015), Medici (2016), Reckless (2018) and Màkari (2024).
Is Eugenio Franceschini single?
Bad news for anyone hoping to slide into the DMs, Eugenio has been in a long-term relationship with his partner since around 2016.
Whilst the couple, who reportedly met on the set of Medici, keep their romance out of the public eye, they share a son who was born in January 2018. Eugenio also appears to have welcomed a second child since.
Back when he was 21, Eugenio admitted he’s not one for relationships. In a 2012 interview with Vanity Fair Italia, Eugenio explained that he had “one long relationship, which ended after two years”.
“I’m not cut out for a couple’s life,” he said at the time. “My father is of gypsy origin, and like him, I’m intolerant of staying in one place or situation, after a while I need changes. In fact, I haven’t had any long relationships anymore.”

What’s his relationship like with Lily Collins?
As on-screen lovers, Emily and Marcello make one gorgeous couple, and the two actors have become close during filming.
“I worked with Lily all the time, so, yeah, she is [my closest friend],” Eugenio told PEOPLE.
In another interview with Arne Gershwin Gogo, Eugenio said his first impression of the actress was “amazing” and described her as “humble” and “a star”.
“She helped me a lot during the audition,” he added.
Lily has been married to husband Charlie McDowell since 2021 and welcomed daughter Tove via surrogate in January 2025.
