Evelyn Ellis was by far one of the most popular MAFS contestants on this year’s season. Arriving as an intruder, the Sydney-based star sure made a splash and fans instantly fell in love with her amazing style, can-do attitude and hilarious sarcasm.
Now, months after the show has aired, Evelyn is in the midst of her latest professional endeavour – a hosting gig on Getaway!
Before her second episode airs this weekend, Evelyn sat down with WHO to chat all things Sydney, MAFS and what the future holds.
Can you tell us a bit about your getaway segment?
Yes, So I’m very excited! We are eating Korean barbecue in the city and my city of Sydney. We are also doing a paint and sip class followed by some thrifting. Some super ‘Sydney’ activities- it should be fun.
This is your first foray into presenting following your stint on MAFS. What was the experience like?
So I definitely have a newfound respect for presenters. But yeah, it’s obviously a different format to reality TV, but I loved every minute of it. And hopefully, I made the Channel Nine team proud.
And as you said, one of the segments covers thrift shopping in Sydney. What are your best tips for a successful thrift haul?
Take your time! Going when you have like a lazy Saturday or Sunday, and you have some good company and just having fun with it. Just going along the day and making it a really inclusive activity.
Do you have a favourite thrifted item?
I do. It’s actually from a thrift store in London. It’s a bomber jacket with stitch badging on it. Yeah, it’s really authentic. I always get so many compliments when I wear it.
Do you have a favourite segment you’ve filmed?
I enjoyed all of it! But I think my favorite would probably be Korean barbecue because Duncan and his sister got to come and it was the first time Renee, Duncan’s sister, got to try Korean barbecue food. That was a fun experience.
And what’s your go to side dish when it comes to Korean barbecue?
Favourite? You’ve got to have the Soju on the side!
And it’s been quite a few months now since MAFS has finished airing – are you still in touch with the cast?
Well, I talk to some of them here and there, some of the girls. But I think everyone’s kind of going back to their lives now. So we don’t really hear too much of them, but I’m excited to see a few of them at the Logies!
And how is your relationship with Duncan changed in recent months now that there isn’t any pressure to keep it a secret?
It’s just really comfortable and content. We have a really, really good relationship. And I think we’re definitely both in it for the long run. So it’s really special. We have some exciting news to share soon, but I can’t share it as of yet.
When you did go public with your relationship was there one thing in particular you were looking forward to?
Just walking down the street and being able to take photos together and just you know, when you have a new beau, you adore them and you’re proud of them and you just want to show them off. Right? So it was a good feeling just to step out and just do like normal everyday stuff with him.
Ending on the big question, what’s next?
Well, I can’t tell you just yet but there is something exciting in the pipeline in regards to Duncan and I’s relationship. In regards to my career, I don’t know what’s next. You just have to take the television world or whatever it may be, with a grain of salt. Hope for the best. Do everything with all your heart and just put your best foot forward. I’d love a career in television, but obviously, it’s not promised. You just have to keep working on it because it’s like my dream!
